Message from CHEEA Chairperson - Farida Khan

If I thought that only biological mothers were surprised on Mother’s  Day, wow, imagine my surprise when I saw this in the Tribune on Sunday, May 9, 2010.

I appeal to all of you to please consider  helping these children during the cold months ahead, especially the long month break that these children will be on during the June/July Holidays.

CHEEA has an Open Handed Page on our website: www.cheea.org.za. Please visit this page and assist CHEEA, financially to give food parcels to the many orphan children that we serve. Any amount will be appreciated.

The Schools that CHEEA works with are in the south Durban area of the eThekwini Municipality, namely the Merebank and Umbumbulu areas. Many of the learners in these schools are either orphans and or Child Headed Households.

CHEEA has been engaging with these Learners on HIV& Aids awareness programmes, including Gardening Projects, to compliment the Schools Feeding Scheme, which only provides one meal per day. These Learners normally eat part of this meal, consisting of samp and beans or pap and beans, and take the rest home to other siblings.

CHEEA has been trying to get help with regards to food hampers, especially during the Winter (June/July) Holidays, as these learners won't even have the one meal that the School provides.

With your benevolence, watching these children smile and appreciate these food parcels, knowing that they will have some food for the Holidays will be a real delight. I look forward to your kindness.

Many thanks.
